Scholarship Background and Intent

Odile E. Coble was born and raised in Freeport, Illinois. Though she was an excellent student and lover of learning, Odile never had the opportunity to pursue her own college education.

An incredibly strong woman, Odile raised her young son alone after a chronic illness diagnosis and losing her husband. She dealt with those circumstances with incredible grace, maintained a wonderful sense of humor and would go on to support her son in earning two college degrees (a Bachelor’s and a Master’s) and beginning his successful engineering career.

This scholarship is to honor Odile's journey and memory and encourage young women to succeed in achieving their academic potential.
