Scholarship Background and Intent

Ann Guedet speaks about this family-supported scholarship -

“Given my nearly forty years of experience in this very special healthcare field, I want to help others find their own path towards reaching their individualized piece of the rewarding profession of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). SLP is an amazing and many-faceted profession.  Once your Master’s Degree and certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) has been completed you have a wide and varied choice for the direction of your expertise.  SLPs may be found in educational or school settings focusing on general communication skill improvement for better access to academic instruction with students from early childhood through high school graduation.  SLPs may also be found directing their expertise within a setting targeting their work with students having autism, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, mental impairment, emotional disorders, as well as a wide variety of syndromes and other health abnormalities impacting communication skills.  SLPs may also be found in hospital settings with all ages and assisting with medical conditions impacting communication and general functioning such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, swallowing and feeding difficulties, dementia, neurological disorders and many more communication and function struggles.  SLPs may be found in private clinics, at-home services, rehab centers, homes for persons with severe disabilities, nursing homes and on and on.  Speech-Language Pathology is one of the most rewarding and challenging fields a person might choose.  We become a strong family of men and women sharing interests, sharing new approaches, and sharing support for one another.  It routinely becomes more than a mere “profession”, it is who you are more than what you do. Hopefully, this scholarship can start you along your path.”
