Richard J. Schnell Memorial Scholarship
Criteria:
An individual who has been accepted into or is enrolled in an American Dental Association accredited dental or dental hygiene program or a graduate post-doctoral program in the United States. Must show evidence of financial need. Applicants may reside anywhere within the United States.

Dr. Schnell’s Bio
Richard John Schnell was born in Springfield, Illinois and grew up in Pecatonica. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Louis University’s Doctor of Dental Surgery degree program. He served in the United States Army before earning a master’s of science degree from Indiana University, and serving as a professor in the dental school’s Department of Dental Materials for nearly four decades.
Dr. Schnell was an internationally recognized scientist and educator, with numerous publications in scientific journals, and contributions to several dental textbooks. He was a member of the International Association for Dental Research and the American Association for Dental Research. At the dental school, he was well known as a skillful and empathetic mentor of graduate level students.
Application Instructions:
To apply for this scholarship, you must complete an online application and submit a packet of additional materials in hard copy. Both of these components MUST be RECEIVED by the July 1st deadline.
The scholarship packet requires your school counselor, registrar or principal to verify your academic information so be sure to allow sufficient time to submit the application. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
